THRIVE
(Total Health: Research on Inflammation, Vigor & Energy)

Breast and colon cancers are among the most common cancers in the United States. Fatigue is a very common problem among cancer survivors.

What is the purpose of the study?

Our mission is to understand what makes cancer survivors more susceptible to fatigue and the extent to which the inflammatory network plays a significant role in cancer-related fatigue. This project is the first prospective study of inflammation and fatigue from pretreatment through survivorship in colon and breast cancer survivors, as well as a non-cancer comparison group.

What does the study involve?
Study participation involves 4 visits to the OSU Clinical Research Center (CRC) and 2 phone interviews over the course of approximately 24-36 months (depending on the length of your cancer treatment). The visits include blood draws, questionnaires, body measurements and an interview. The phone calls include a brief interview on recent feelings of fatigue and mood. The total anticipated time for all vists and phone calls is 6-7 hours.

Who is eligible to be in the study?
~Men & women in the Columbus area who have had symptoms that led them to get a colonoscopy
~Women who are going to have a breast biopsy
~Those who have been diagnosed with breast cancer or colorectal cancer but have not started treatment

How would I benefit by participating?
~Earn $175 for completing all aspects of the study
~Free parking for your visit
~Contribute to important research on cancer survivors
